Your mission

As our Barley Procurement Manager BeFra, you will execute the malting barley procurement strategy for Belgium and France, ensuring a reliable and cost-effective supply that meets plant and customer needs, quality requirements, and budget targets.

This is an operationally driven role, focused on daily market activities, contracting, logistics optimization, and maintaining plant coverage, while monitoring and reporting local physical and financial risks.

You will actively contribute to the overall procurement strategy in close collaboration with the Continental Barley Procurement Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

As our Barley Procurement Manager BeFra your role will involve:

Procurement Strategy & Financial Performance

  • Develop and execute the BeFra procurement strategy in collaboration with the Continental Barley Procurement Manager.
  • Achieve budgeted Barley P&L targets (global and local impact) and support Budget and Latest Estimate (LE) processes/cycles.
  • Ensuring sensitivity to “profit on barley” objectives and optimize purchasing decisions.

Market Execution & Contract Management

  • Execute daily market activities, including supplier negotiations, local hedging, and contracting within the boundaries and strategic direction set by the Regional Manager.
  • Negotiate and close physical contracts with merchants, cooperatives, and brokers, ensuring accurate and timely execution and follow-up of the barley contract book.

Market Intelligence & Reporting

·       Daily monitoring of Europe’s grain markets and dissemination of relevant market data internally.

  • Perform mark-to-market analysis, track positions, and report P&L of Barley and Logistics Book on a monthly basis.
  • Produce daily and ad hoc reporting on barley positions, pricing, and market trends.

Supply Coverage & Logistics Optimization

  • Ensure optimal plant coverage for BeFra (avoiding shortages or excess).
  • Optimize logistics and purchasing costs across the barley supply chain.

·       Being a key contributor to Supply and Demand Analysis for the region.

Sustainability & Quality

  • Deliver committed SAI-equivalent and regenerative barley volumes in line with group targets.

·       Ensuring procurement in BeFra region aligns with Boortmalt’s sustainability targets, including SAI and Regenerative grown barley, to align with emission reduction objectives.

·       Implementing in collaboration with Quality Team supplier evaluation programs to encourage quality, sustainability, and innovation for BeFra region.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external suppliers (merchants, cooperatives, storage partners, malting barley growers’ groups, farmers’ organizations).
  • Act as a key decision taker for barley side in S&OP, aligning with Supply Chain and Quality to meet production and customer requirements (volumes/quality).

·       Collaborating with Spain procurement, when it affects and involves imports from other countries, such as France, Denmark or UK.

Innovation & Development Support

  • Supporting innovation team with sourcing of all new products (Lentils, peas, rye, oats, etc.).
  • Supporting the follow-up of BeFra's new varieties trials and pilots program setting, collaborating with Regional Manager and Global Variety Development Manager.

Profil / Compétences requises

Profile / required Skills

·       Degree level in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, or Commodities Trading (preferable).

·       Additional training in Risk Management or Supply Chain Management is a plus.

·       Minimum 5 to 10 years work experience in procurement or trading; knowledge of agricultural markets is a must. Familiar working with volatile and cash markets, working with diverse groups, understanding accounting and inventory management, negotiation skills.

·       Fluent in English and French is a must. Spanish, Dutch or German are a plus.

·       Knowledge in Procurement ERPs and Grain Market Analysis software's are mandatory.

·       Based in Antwerp, Belgium with frequent travel to barley growing regions, depending on business needs.
