Regional Sustainable Agriculture & Barley Quality Manager Continental Europe

Missions essentielles

As the Regional Sustainability Agriculture & Barley Quality Manager Continental Europe, you support Boortmalt's scope 3 upstream sustainability goals as well as goals related to transparency & traceability, and business ethics, all in the context of barley (wheat). You are the point of contact for the local Barley and sales team and the go to person for all sustainability & quality initiatives and roadmaps as well as for CFT (or equivalent) data gathering in the region. You are a key member of the team providing guidance and leadership of sustainable farming projects across your region. You will work with external parties like customers, suppliers, 3rd parties, farmers,… and be the go-to person for developing, leading and driving our sustainability & quality roadmaps as well as providing insights & data.

 

Your responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Work with the Regional Quality team to establish and maintain a robust and compliant supplier quality system right across Continental Europe. This system needs to meet the FSSC 22000 minimum requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement and further roll out pre-screening programs for incoming raw material (quality, food safety and sustainability)
  • Responsible for setting up regular crop report overviews (quality, food safety and sustainability) in collaboration with the agricultural team across the region
  • Pro-active approach concerning the identification and management of all potential crop related issues such as mycotoxins, gushing, protein contents and others
  • Train and develop the quality teams + site teams as the subject-matter expert regarding barley quality and sustainability including the (potential) risks + mitigation actions (corrective + preventive)
  • Collaborate on ongoing basis with the barley procurement + commercial teams to determine quality and sustainability related risks and opportunities
  • Support regional quality manager and cluster quality managers to ensure that the sites always perform in the most optimal way with the available barley quality (always seeking to maximise the potential quality that is in the raw material)
  • Capture + submit and resolve supplier complaints with all relevant stakeholders involved in a timely manner
  • Being the recognised first point of contact with raw material suppliers on all matters/issues related to barley quality, food safety and sustainability
  • Representing BM in Continental Europe and global committees and building our reputation as the industry leader when it comes to the quality assurance & control, food safety and sustainability of our raw material.
  • Support Boortmalt's scope 3 upstream sustainability goals, analysing data, identifying trends, areas for improvement and best practices
  • Monitor and control all programs including certification on CO2 as well as SAI or equivalent Keep up to speed with the latest on sustainable farming, Government guidelines, Funding opportunities
  • Be the key regional contact with our global partner Soil Capital
  • Responsible (spokesperson) for the Global Raw Materials pillar of Boortmalt which is part of the Global Quality Strategy and Governance initiative
  • Implement, together with external parties, agro, sales & barley team all sustainable barley roadmaps in the region to reach our FLAG commitment
  • Monitor & Coordinate all regional programs including certification on CO2 as well as SAI or equivalent.
  • Use the CFT data to identify regional barley footprints, trends, areas for improvement, best practices and develop proposals to achieve the results needed to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees through our farmer programs
  • Identify the right 3rd parties for data gathering, data validation, certificate generation,…. In line with the different needs of the region and program
  • Contribute to improved reporting on barley footprint & SAI certified through power-BI and potentially other tools in the future. Frequent travel is essential: to barley fields, storage facilities, our production sites and to suppliers

Profil / Compétences requises

  • Masters degree in agriculture or agronomy, or equivalent by experience in regional supply chains from field to factory.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in a similar role within the food/beverage or similar industry, with a good understanding of supplier management and successful implementation and management of supplier quality.
  • Background in sustainable and carbon neutral farming (SAI, SBTi, FLAG,...).
  • Good excel skills is a must
  • Excellent speaking and writing in English and French 
  • Critical thinking skills: ability to think analytically and problem solving skills
