SAFETY MANAGER

Missions essentielles

1. Strategy & Company Objectives

  • Understand, apply, and effectively communicate the Boortmalt mission and vision, ensuring alignment with the expectations and values defined by the Group SHE Manager.
  • Translate the overall Group SHE strategy into a national action plan, ensuring effective implementation and ongoing monitoring of results.

2. Business Results

  • Demonstrate strong leadership by making decisive choices when required, coaching and supporting the team to foster motivation and achieve or exceed set targets.
  • Take full ownership of results by ensuring optimal use of human and material resources, proactively initiating corrective actions without reliance on Group SHE Manager intervention.
  • Collaborate closely with country and site management teams to understand key performance drivers, budget deviations, and operational challenges, and to implement corrective measures when necessary.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, timely reports in line with Group standards to keep the Group SHE Manager and country management informed, using insights to continuously improve performance.

3. Organizational Structure & Processes

  • Develop and implement SHE-related processes, policies, and controls within the approved strategy, ensuring consistent execution and corrective action where required.
  • Lead continuous risk assessment activities by identifying key operational risks and defining and implementing effective mitigation plans.
  • Define country-level SHE leading and lagging KPIs aligned with global SHE KPIs and promote a culture of continuous improvement to progressively enhance SHE performance.
  • Regularly assess internal and external stakeholder satisfaction and translate feedback into improvement action plans.
  • Prepare and manage the annual SHE budget.
  • Communicate, implement, and monitor SHE procedures, instructions, and safety and security standards in collaboration with managers and employees across the organization.
  • Maintain the SHE management system, including internal consistency, document management, and document control.
  • Develop, own, and execute the rolling safety roadmap, ensuring timely completion of planned actions.

4. SHE Culture

  • Actively promote and support a zero-accident and zero-incident culture by leveraging all available SHE and management tools.
  • Ensure all workplaces comply with safety, environmental, and health requirements, implementing corrective measures when deviations are identified.
  • Implement company safety policies and training programs, support accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and define corrective and preventive actions.
  • Establish and manage a safety observation reporting process, encouraging staff participation and guiding employees in hazard identification and risk awareness.

5. SHE Awareness

  • Actively participate in internal meetings addressing SHE-related topics required to achieve company SHE objectives.
  • Play an active role in Safety Committees, working closely with local management teams.

6. Coaching & Development of Human Capital

  • Coordinate SHE-related activities across the regional organization through functional leadership, strong collaboration, and influence over regional and local management teams to ensure compliance with safety standards.

7. Auditing & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and legal requirements, as well as Group standards and industry best practices.
  • Support the business by conducting internal audits to verify compliance with accreditation requirements and company standards.
  • Oversee waste management and disposal processes in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Manage the security function, including team performance and processes, contribute to Crisis Management Team inputs, and organize and schedule Crisis Management meetings.

Profil / Compétences requises

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Additional certification in Health, Safety, and Environment (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) is an advantage.

  • 3–6 years of proven experience in a Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) role, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience in implementing SHE management systems, conducting risk assessments, and leading audits and training programs is required.

  • Fluent in Amharic and English.
