As the SHE Manager for the UK and Ireland, you lead the development and implementation of safety, health, and environmental strategies across multiple production sites. Your role ensures compliance with legal and corporate standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
This role can be located in our office in Bury St Edmunds, UK or Athy, Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Certification Management
- Ensure full compliance with UK and Irish SHE legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005).
- Maintain and improve certifications such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management).
- Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies (e.g., HSE, EPA Ireland).
SHE Awareness & Engagement
- Actively participate in regional and local SHE meetings and safety committees.
- Collaborate with site leadership to embed SHE objectives into daily operations.
Risk Management & Incident Investigation
- Conduct HAZOPs, PUWER assessments, and COSHH evaluations.
- Lead root cause analysis using tools like 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagrams.
- Implement corrective actions and track effectiveness.
Training & Competency Development
- Deliver SHE induction and refresher training tailored to high-risk environments (e.g., chemical handling, confined space entry, machine safety).
- Promote behavioral safety through toolbox talks and near-miss reporting campaigns.
Environmental Stewardship
- Drive waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation initiatives.
- Oversee compliance with Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting).
- Implement spill response protocols and manage hazardous waste in line with ADR and REACH regulations.
Audit & Performance Monitoring
- Conduct internal audits and lead external audit readiness.
- Monitor KPIs such as TRIR, LTIR, and environmental impact metrics.
- Use digital tools (e.g., Enablon, EcoOnline) for SHE data management.
Emergency Preparedness & Crisis Management
- Develop and test site-specific emergency response plans.
- Coordinate fire drills, chemical spill simulations, and business continuity exercises.
